Wole Soyinka in Haiti
Posted on 12th January 2018In February 2018, the first Black Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, led a delegation of artists and culture workers on a State Visit to Haiti. President Josevena conferred the ‘Medal of Honour and Merit of Haiti, Commander’s Rank’ upon him and Soyinka was also made an Honourary Citizen of Cap Haitien, the capital of the northern region of Caribbean Island. The visit was part of the project MEETINGS OF HERE AND ELSEWHERE, an international cultural exchange programme between Africa and its Caribbean diaspora. Jahman Anikulapo facilitated the African input and was also part of the delegation. Anikulapo’s CAC has already worked on similar projects ….linking continental Africa with its many Diasporas, especially through projects that trace and seek to preserve and promote the heritages of the African and black family.
